9 Karat Gold. All the Luxury of Gold, With Unprecedented Affordability

We hear about all these different gold karats, but what do they all mean? The karat number of  gold jewellery is a reference to the purity of the gold. 24 karats would be pure gold but pure gold is too soft for practical jewellery. The most common gold karatage used in high end luxury jewellery is 18 karat. This is 75% pure gold, with a mixture of different alloys to make up the other 25%. 18 Karat gold is great but it can be really costly. Other types of gold karatages that are common are 14kt, 10kt, and 9kt.

As gold is a soft metal, the more we increase the presence of other alloys, the more we increase the hardness and durability of the jewellery. 9 karat jewellery gives you the same look as any other gold jewellery however it is the cheapest and the most durable. This is the reason why we have brought a lot of 9 karat gold jewellery straight to Crush Jewels and made it available to you!

Filigree Jewellery: It’s the new trend

What is filigree you may ask? It is a style of jewellery that has become a burgeoning trend across the globe. Filigree jewellery is defined by it’s delicate and intricate detail work using tiny golden beads, twisted threads, and a multitude of different swirls.

It can come in delicate floral forms, or bold jagged snowflake-type images. There are so many different types of filigree, but the question is what makes us all love it so much. The answer is actually quite simple: It’s interesting. Filigree has so much detail that it is simply a pleasure to look at for all who see it. It can have a rustic feel or a high-fashion feel, but its always fun. Crush jewels has many interesting filigree pieces for you to display to all your friends!

On the horizon: Jewellery in 2014

Its always fun to predict what will happen with jewellery trends in the year ahead. With 2013 coming to a close, we will give it our best shot. It’s a sure bet that rose gold will continue its dominance over the luxury markets, as it has over the past few year. However, expect yellow gold to start its rebound in the fashion world this year, and start coming back strong in the more affordable jewellery sectors.

2013 was certainly the year of the Emerald. We experienced unprecedented sales of the luscious green stone. 2014 will bring a change and we can already tell that the classic Royal Blue Sapphire will be the stone of the year. We will be off to trade shows in Italy in Switzerland in the first quarter and will report back in the spring!

More is Better: Fun with Multiple rings

There’s a new fun movement going on in the jewellery world. Wear as many rings as possible! We are starting to see this in many different ways. We are seeing three, four, and even 5 rings stacked on each hand. Another popular way is to wear 3 similar rings across 3 fingers.

There are two peice rings that sit on one fingers and also solid rings that go across two fingers. We are really seeing jewellery trends experimenting with different configurations and it is really bringing new excitement to the industry! We look forward to seeing designers push the borders even further!
